DIY Wzmacniacz lampowy - 300b SE

A single-ended, directly heated triode is my favorite solution for tube amplifiers. Among the tubes used in such circuits, we find powerful triodes like the GM70, 845, or 211, which are more popular high-power ones, and on the other hand, much less powerful ones like the 2A3 or 45. In the middle of this range is the legendary 300B tube. Its appearance on the scene is due to Western Electric, which introduced this tube in 1938. In the 1930s, no other triode had such a power output of approximately 8W in a single-ended circuit, and its lifespan increased to approximately 40,000 hours with lower distortion than its predecessors. In the late 1980s, when WE discontinued the 300B, Richardson Electronics began producing its own 300B under the Cetron brand, which, unfortunately, I never had the opportunity to hear. Nowadays, while tube amplifiers are very popular among music lovers and those who value high sound quality, vacuum tube manufacturers are actively releasing new versions of the 300b tube (e.g., Psvane, Elrog). Many iconic amplifiers using this triode have also been created by manufacturers such as Audio Note, Sun Audio, Air Tight, Shindo, etc. A few years ago, I thought about building an amplifier based on 300b tubes in an SE configuration. After searching through the multitude of available solutions, I settled on the Sun Audio version, and a ready-made kit based on this circuit came to the rescue. I've now managed to get my 8th amplifier working, but this time, it was intended for workshop use, so I wasn't particularly concerned about the appearance. But as is usually the case, it's already sold out. During this time, I had the opportunity to audition most of the 300b tubes available on the market, as well as a few NOS versions, including the original WE. In my personal ranking, the top tubes are from Elrog (I haven't had a chance to try the molybdenum one yet), PSVANE replica WE, Takatsuki, or Fullmusic 300B/c/+. In the middle are Sophia, Psvane Treasure/HiFi, or Gold Lion, EL. The lowest rankings are for Electro Harmonix products, both the standard and the GOLD and JJ versions. I'm still waiting for a product from KR Audio and the aforementioned Cetron. Sovtek and Svetlana tubes are also worth recommending. When I managed to assemble my first one with the help of my good friend Grześ, it turned out to be more interesting sonically than the Krell kav 300i or Yaqin mc100b. #300b #nowakaudio #diy References: Barbour, Eric.
