Nishio Castle in Aichi Prefecture. By 2020, the castle's turrets and earthen walls had been rebuilt, gradually increasing its popularity. Plans are underway to rebuild the castle tower, which will likely add another iconic castle to the Tokai region. Entering the castle ruins, now known as "Nishio City Historical Park," you can stroll around the castle's Honmaru and Ninomaru citadels and even enter the tower. Additionally, the Nishio City Museum on the premises offers free access to exhibits that provide a detailed understanding of Nishio Castle. They even have a model of the castle, which I love, and photography is permitted (with some exceptions). Many of the materials are available for takeaway, and the staff were very helpful. They also offer a tour of the castle town, which I ended up visiting again later. This is a place where you can really feel the "Let's make Nishio Castle more popular!" atmosphere. The reason Nishio Castle is so popular is because this castle is so interesting. First, the castle tower. It's believed to have looked like this, which is quite original, isn't it? It may look similar to the castle tower of Okayama Castle, but the structure is completely different, and it is said to be a combination of a multi-tiered tower and a watchtower that can only be seen at Nishio Castle. The Ninomaru Ushitora Tower, which was rebuilt nearby, also has a unique shape. The first floor is unusually large, with the second floor perched atop it, which somehow resembles the castle tower. The earthen wall that continues from this tower has also been rebuilt, but there is a bent section called a byobu-ore. This was rebuilt based on surviving drawings and documents. The castle tower base is already complete, and one day a unique castle tower will be built on top of it, one that will be unforgettable once you see it.
