Thriving Mall: Southland Center - Taylor, Michigan

Welcome to the Southland Center Mall located in Taylor, MI. Opened in 1970 with a Hudson's, Woolworth, and a Kroger. A two screen movie theater opened a few weeks after the mall opened. Kroger closed and relocated and the space was turned into a wing for the mall with a JCPenney attached in 1976. In 1986 the theater was bought out by AMC and became 4 theaters instead of 2, also adding a new wing to the mall. In the same year Mervyn's was added to the mall. In 1992 a food court was added to the mall. In 1999 the theater closed and was replaced with a Borders in 2000. Hudson's was rebranded into Marshall Field's in 2001 and in 2006 Marshall Fields would be rebranded into Macy's in 2005 the food court lost all of it tenants and was demolished along with the former Mervyn's space (Closed in 2006) in 2015 for a new BestBuy store. In 2011 Borders closed and would be replaced with Forever 21 in 2013. In the same year Shoe Carnival opened up in the JCPenney wing where smaller stores used to be. Mervyn's was demolished in 2016 and was replaced with a Cinemark theater. In 2015 H&M opened up in the mall and in 2018 The Macy's store added a backstage center.
