Yarag-Kazmalyar (Lezg. Яражъ КъАЗМАЯр) is a village in the Magaramkent district of the Republic of Dagestan. It forms the rural settlement of the village of Yarag-Kazmalyar as the only settlement in its composition The main part of the population of Yarag-Kazmalyar are people from the now abandoned village of Yukhary-Yarag (Upper Yarag). The village was located on the territory of Kyura, 78 kilometers from Derbent and not far from Kasumkent. Yarag was located on the southeastern slope of a wooded hill. Due to the fact that the village had a favorable geographical location, it, like Kasumkent, occupied a central position in the economic, cultural and political life of the Kyura people. On Sundays, merchants from various trading centers of the Eastern Caucasus (Akhta, Kurakha, Derbent, Quba and others) came to the Yarag bazaar. The Yaragtsy traded charcoal, firewood, grain, fruit, and so on. Women were engaged in housekeeping, weaving colorful rugs and khurdjins[5]. By the beginning of the 20th century, the Yaragtsy had winter pastures in the Samur Valley in the Aran area. During the winter, the Yaragtsy lived in temporary huts called "kazmayar" (Lezg. kazmayar). Here is what S. O.
