ANNA vs JUNE (Athens, Greece)

"Warm day over Athens. The city's natural ugliness is surrounding us, swallowed by myriads of traffic noises, and the weird presence of the American embassy on the other side of the street. Strange charm in this urban chaos. We are at Anna's apartment, a friend introduced us the week before. I was excited to present her my own research on trad meets experimental sounds, as she seemed to embody well this same quest. We talked and exchange ideas, and she seemed a bit nervous the days before the recording. Now she is in the middle of the moment, her fragility turning into deep clarity. We discussed focusing on reworks around traditional songs - that's how I discovered her at first - and she found a good balance today. A traditional lullaby from Cappadocia, a traditional song from Oinousses (Sina mou) and finally her magnificent Dromos (Road) overlooking the city. She told me later it's a song dedicated to people who are forced to leave their homes. To them we offer this film, and to the open houses ready to meet the unknown, we offer the next one."
