William Farquhar and Singapore's Founding: New Perspectives
William Farquhar's role in the founding of British Singapore has been generally underestimated, with most credit going to Sir Stamford Raffles. This illustrated 45-minutes talk offers new perspectives on William Farquhar's contribution to the lead up to the founding of British Singpaore in 1819, as well as on his pivotal actions ensuring the early retention of the British tradiing post, and his contributions to Singapore's rapid rise as a successful entrepot. This lecture happened on the 19 Jul at BlackBox, Fort Canning Centre.
