Customising and Covering a Lampshade | An Homage to the 1920's
Hello my lovelies, I'm back with a new video! Thank you so much for your patience and understanding, and for all the lovely messages. Also, welcome to all our new subscribers, I hope you enjoy the channel. So in this video, I decided to have a go at something I've never done before and I thought we could all learn something together 😁 Some years ago I bought the most glorious standard lamp (as in a floor-standing lamp), it's 1920's Chinoisserie ( a catchall term meaning Asian influences mashed together and exported back to Europe and the United States, also probably incorrectly spelt, trust me I'm a dyslexic) and it's green! Somehow the cream shade and I never got on and then it got broken. I'd been on the search for years to find a nice shade that went with the base and I wanted something to look like the two were actually meant to go together, obviously, I didn't find one. Until one day I stumbled across the most delightful account on Instagram @aceofshadesshop and I was entranced! Her shades are truly works of art, unfortunately for me, Ivy is based in the States so the logistics of ordering a custom shade I felt were insurmountable; fortunately for me I love fabric, I knew what I wanted and I thought "How hard can it be?" Turns out quite hard as in it's very fiddly, I worked out that if I hadn't filmed the process (filming any creative process for me means literally doubling the time) it would have taken about 15 hours! I will say that equipment-wise if you do any crafting you will have what's required, basically needle and thread, big scissors, small scissors, and a glue gun, maybe a chalk marker too. I'm so happy with how it turned out, I finally have a lampshade that looks like it came with the lamp base. I hope you enjoy the video and find it somewhat entertaining and or useful?
