In this video, I'll show you three simple ways to check the crankshaft position sensor, also known as the CKP sensor or simply the crankshaft sensor. The crankshaft sensor is very sensitive; even the slightest malfunction, even a magnetized metal shaving, can adversely affect the engine's overall performance. The crankshaft sensor is located either above the flywheel in the transmission or above the crankshaft pulley, and it reads data from it. The flywheel and pulley contain teeth that the CKP sensor reads. If two teeth are missing, the crankshaft sensor knows that a full crankshaft revolution has been completed and sends a signal to the electronics. Also, if the crankshaft position sensor is faulty, no spark is produced on all four spark plugs, and the injectors don't fire. The error code indicates misfires on all cylinders.
