"Strangers in the Night" Cover written by Bert Kaempfert Keyboard, Frank Sinatra Yamaha Genos 2

"Strangers in the Night" is an original instrumental song written by Bert Kaempfert with lyrics added later by Charles Singleton and Eddie Snyder. It became a hit in the version by American singer Frank Sinatra, who recorded it for his self-titled album from 1966. In MBert Kaempfert wrote "Strangers in the Night" under the title "Beddy Bye" and used it as an instrumental track for the 1966 film *A Man Could Get Killed*. On April 11, 1966, Frank Sinatra recorded his version of the song. It was originally offered to Melina Merkouri, but she turned it down because she felt the song would sound better if sung by a man. The drums are played by Hal Blaine, while Glen Campbell can be heard on guitar. One of the most famous parts of the song is the scat improvisation during the fade-out, in which Sinatra repeatedly sings "doo-be-doo-be-doo." Various artists claim to have written "Strangers in the Night." The Armenian-American jazz pianist Avo Uvezian stated that he had originally composed the song for Sinatra. When Uvezian was asked why Kaempfert is credited as the writer, he explained that they were friends and that he asked him to release the German version in Germany so that they could share the profits. The Croatian singer Ivo Robić stated that he had sold the rights to his song "Stranci u Noći" to Kaempfert after a song festival in Yugoslavia. Furthermore, the French composer Michel Philippe-Gérard claimed that the melody of "Strangers in the Night" was based on his song "Magic Tango." However, a court ruled that no plagiarism had been committed and that many songs had a similar structure. Sinatra did not consider "Strangers in the Night" a good song; he once called it a "piece of shit" and "the damn worst song I have ever heard." Nevertheless, he scored a number 1 hit with the single in the United States for the first time since "Learnin' the Blues" in 1955. It also became a number 1 hit in the United Kingdom. In the Netherlands, it reached second place in the Top 40 and third place in the Parool Top 20, while it reached first place in the predecessor of the Flemish Ultratop 50. The song received three Grammy Awards in 1967: in the categories Record of the Year, Best Male Pop Vocal Performance, and Best Instrumental Arrangement Accompanying Vocalist(s). "Strangers in the Night" has been covered by many artists, including Aerosmith, Marc Almond, Sandro de América, Peter Beil, Cake, Vikki Carr, Eric Clapton, Petula Clark, Dalida, Rodney Dangerfield, Johnny Dorelli, José Feliciano, Connie Francis, Jimi Hendrix, Julio Iglesias, Jack Jones, Brenda Lee, Barry Manilow, Al Martino, Johnny Mathis, Bette Midler, Mina, Line Renaud, Johnny Rivers, Nancy Sinatra, Violetta Villas, Gerhard Wendland, and Andy Willi.ay of that year, the song was released as the first single from the album.
