Zona Rural de Coração de Maria | VISTO DE CIMA

HISTORY OF THE MUNICIPALITY The historical aspects of the Municipality of Coração de Maria are established from the existence of a settlement on a farm belonging to Bento Simões, in the mid-18th century, known as "Lajes". In 1848, João Manoel da Mata, Macrino Simões Ferreira, and Antônio Fidelis de Cerqueira Daltro, being devout, built a thatched-roof chapel where the headquarters of the Itacava District is located today. This chapel was consecrated to the Most Sacred Heart of Mary, which was annexed to the parish of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus of Pedrão. From then on, the flow of people attending religious gatherings favored the progress of the region. In mid-1848, with the arrival of the Jesuit Friar Paulo de Carnicalle, there was encouragement to build the main church to replace the existing chapel, which was elevated in 1853 to a Parish and District of Peace, with the name of Most Sacred Heart of Mary. The settlement that served as the seat of this parish was elevated to the status of a town on March 10, 1891, by Decree No. 199, signed by the Governor of Bahia, José Gonçalves da Silva. Its establishment was a result of the reinforcement and political influence of State Senator José Félix de Carvalho, a Colonel in the National Guard, who became its first leader and political figure until 1906, the year in which the so-called "Era dos D'alto" (Era of the High Powers) began. Originally, the municipality of Mari encompassed a much larger territorial extension. According to the boundaries established at the time of its creation, the municipality was formed from ecclesiastical lands of the former parish of SS. Immaculate Heart of Mary and lands of the district of Nossa Senhora de Oliveira dos Campinhos, separated from the Municipality of Santo Amaro da Purificação and the district of São Simão, these separated from the Municipality of Nossa Senhora da Purificação dos Campos do Irará, which demonstrates the political power that Colonel José Félix de Carvalho held in the then State Senate. However, the power and political influence of Colonel José Félix began to show signs of decline at the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the following century. On July 18, 1877, the then governor of Bahia, Luís Viana, signed Law No. 181, returning Oliveira dos Campinhos to the municipality of Santo Amaro; on July 15, 1905, Governor José Marcelino de Souza returned São Simão to the municipality of Irará. The municipality of Coração de Maria became insignificant once its territorial extension came to comprise only the lands donated by Antônio da Costa Pinto and a small extension of what was taken from the old Sesmaria of São Bento do Inhatá. The current shape of Coração de Maria was determined only on August 19, 1914, through Law No. 1057, signed by then-governor José Joaquim Seabra, which restored the district of São Simão to the municipality of Coração de Maria, a situation that remains to this day. This restitution was a result of political agreements made between the municipal intendant Abílio Pereira de Cerqueira Daltro in his struggle to continue controlling the region. #Heart of Mary #Bahia #History of Heart of Mary #Country Things with Ivã Cesar #Country Things #Interior Things #Rural Area #Interior #Farm #Ranch #Farm #Stud Farm PRODUCTS FOR TRAILS AND HIKING: M.
