In January 1881, during the War of the Pacific, this iconic hill was the scene of a brutal massacre. Thousands of Peruvian civilians and young soldiers gave their lives defending the city without ammunition, fighting hand-to-hand. Since there wasn't time to bury them, the mountain absorbed their blood and bones. Today, Morro Solar has awakened.
