Ginza Okuno Building (1932) - Showa Vibes, Art Galleries, and more! | JAPAN WALKING TOURS

Are you interested in retro and Showa era-style areas and buildings in Japan? You might enjoy this video! This is the oldest building in Ginza, the Okuno Building. It's actually two buildings built together - the left side was built in 1932 and the right side in 1934. It was built in the Modernist style of the time with reinforced concrete to withstand earthquakes. It was considered a "luxury" apartment building back in the day and was home to many residents for many decades. Now, it has been repurposed as artist galleries and studios, as well as a few office spaces. It features one of the only manually controlled elevator doors in Tokyo (that I know of) still in use. It's located very close to Tokyo Station and Yurakucho Station, as well as the Ginza area. If you're looking for something interesting and unique to see in Tokyo, you should drop by and check it out!
