There's a tiny workshop on the edge of Sürmene Municipality, right next to the teahouse. It doesn't even catch your eye. You just walk past it. For years, Hasan Sancak, a kemençe master known as one of Türkiye's living human treasures, has been in that workshop. Hasan Sancak, who makes kemençe but can't play it, can't even dance the horon, sends his famous kemençes all over the world and is training his grandson to pass his art on to the future. He still opens his workshop every day except Sundays and continues to produce. He says he's always here except on the first days of holidays. And Hasan Usta says he'll continue as long as he can. He still works with his hands, breathing life into the hearts of mulberry trees, plum trees, and juniper trees. He strives to ensure that the records of our lands reach everywhere. Çağla Yılmaz
