Ministers on New Canada-U.S. economic relations advisory council – April 21, 2026

Prime Minister Mark Carney, ministers and Liberal MPs speak with reporters on Parliament Hill as the federal cabinet holds its weekly meeting. The prime minister, as well ministers Dominic LeBlanc (Canada-U.S. trade), François-Philippe Champagne (finance) and Sean Fraser (justice) comment on the government’s newly composed advisory committee on Canada-U.S. economic relations. Fraser is asked about the possibility of the government establishing guardrails when it comes to provincial use of the notwithstanding clause. Minister Anita Anand (foreign affairs) and Carney speak about the Canadian tourist killed in a shooting at the Teotihuacán pyramids in Mexico. Anand also faces questions on the government calling on Israel to investigate the killing of Canadian citizen in southern Lebanon.
