Matthew 5: 38-42 “I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil.” At that time: Jesus said to his disciples, “You have heard that it was said, ‘An eye for an eye and a tooth for a tooth.’ But I say to you, Do not resist the one who is evil. But if anyone slaps you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also. And if anyone would sue you and take your tunic, let him have your cloak as well. And if anyone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles. Give to the one who begs from you, and do not refuse the one who would borrow from you. Psalm 5: 2-3, 5-6, 7 (R. 2b) O Lord, give heed to my sighs. 1. To my words give ear, O Lord; give heed to my sighs. Attend to the sound of my cry, my King and my God. 2. You are no God who delights in evil; no sinner is your guest. The boastful shall not stand their ground before your eyes. 3. All who do evil you despise; all who lie you destroy. The deceitful and those who shed blood, the Lord detests.
