Clock Build – Depthing the Train & Testing the Deadbeat Escapement (Tekippe Regulator, Part 7)

In Part 7 of my Tekippe Regulator clock build, I’ve now reached a huge milestone — the gear train is fully assembled and has been carefully depthed. All the wheels and pinions are now mounted on their arbors and fitted into the brass plates for the first time. In this video, I walk through the process of depthing the train, attaching the arbors into place, and finally testing the deadbeat escapement. While I have a few issues that I point out towards the end of the video, it’s ticking — and this is the first time I’ve seen real motion in the mechanism. A very satisfying stage in the build! This project is based on Bernard Tekippe’s precision regulator design, which I’ve been slowly building from raw materials, machining each component myself in the workshop.
