HEDEL – The organizers of the more than 300-year-old horse market in Hedel had already anticipated a lower supply of horses. This had already been evident in Zuidlaren and Elst in recent weeks, so expectations were not high. By mid-Monday morning, fewer than a thousand animals had been registered, compared to the previous edition's 1,200. Nevertheless, the organizers were very pleased with how things went. It seemed there were fewer spectators, but that was also because there were fewer horses, which meant there was much more space for the public. On the positive side, there was sufficient demand for horses, which bodes well for future years. Excellent care The organizers were also very pleased with the few, if any, complaints received regarding animal welfare. There was ample hay and drinking water for the animals, and the loading and unloading of the horses went smoothly. The NVWA (Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority), which was present again to conduct inspections, did not observe any major issues. However, there were a few minor tips that the organizers took to heart.
