►Old cars have old car issues; many small ones can stem from a weak or lousy ignition system. The air-cooled 911s all use distributors, so you should replace the rotor, cap, spark plugs, and ignition wires. The typical service interval for this is around 30,000 miles, but cars that aren't driven for extended trips or those that sit around may want to reduce that mileage. Signs of a bad ignition system are a rough idle or breaking up under load, reduced fuel mileage, and power loss. Cars that sit and are idled often experience fouled spark plugs and oxidized contacts within the distributor. Taking your classic out for a longer drive with hard acceleration and trips to the redline is highly encouraged to keep all the ignition components healthy.
