Bharatnatyam I Vidushi Alarmel Valli I Live at BCMF 2012

#bengalclassicalmusicfestival ┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉┉ Alarmel Valli is an Indian classical dancer and choreographer. She is an exponent of her personal style and the Pandanallur style Indian classical dance form of Bharatnatyam. Valli received formal training in dance from the renowned guru Chokkalingam Pillai and his son Subbaraya Pillai. Thereafter, she came under the tutelage of T Mukha and studied Padams and Javalis for many years. Additionally, Valli learnt Odissi from Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and his disciple, Guru Ramani Ranjan Jena. She has performed in almost all the major festivals in India and has also displayed her talent in cultural festivals around the world. Valli is a recipient of the Padma Shri Award in 1991, the Grande Medaille de la Ville de Paris Award in 1997, the Sangeet Natak Akademy Award in 2001, and the Padma Bhushan in 2004, among many other honours. She is the founder of Dipashikha, a centre for fine arts in Chennai, where she also teaches Bharatnatyam. ``````````````````````````````````````````````````````````` On the fourth night (2nd December) of the Bengal Classical Music Festival 2012, a growing audience watched renowned Bharatanatyam dancer Vidushi Alarmel Valli alight the stage with a fiery solo performance. The Foundation introduced the Classical Music Festival back in 2012. It all began with an idea. Abul Khair, the Chair of Bengal Foundation, wondered whether something as complex as classical music could reach the hearts of the average audience through the right presentation. He envisioned an event where classical music would be presented in a large-scale festive ambience open for all, dispelling its elitist image. The Festival was launched with the conviction that an annual classical music event would revive the Bengali heritage and enrich popular taste in music. Exposure to the unfathomable depth of classical music is a humbling, yet enriching experience. Immersion into its acute sensibility awakens our spirit, fostering humane values and compassion. The Foundation’s experience from the last six years has led the Foundation to believe that popular taste in classical music has been rising; the audience has not only stood out in numbers, but their capacity to appreciate and concentrate in the subtleties of classical music has also broadened.
