In the last decade, the number of staff dismissed for having inappropriate relationships with inmates has more than doubled. In one prison alone, 18 women were sacked or resigned after crossing relationship boundaries. The increase in cases coincides with a shift in the workforce - more workers are now younger, female and less experienced. Some experts, like the chief executive of the Prison Reform Trust, say young, inexperienced staff are vulnerable and can be manipulated.
