Camping on the Wekiva Part 1

An Extended weekend always calls for some camping. This time I'm doing it from the boat. This is a first for me. Plenty of times out of the Kayak, but never a Jon Boat. I was able to carry more gear. A cooler with some ice and perishable foods. I traveled up the St Johns River and explored several small creaks before returning to the mouth of the Wekiva River. I trolled up the shallow waters for a few miles until I found a suitable campsite. I ran the boat aground and quickly set up the tarps to avoid getting everything drenched by the rain. The Thunderstorm relaxed and I was able to start a fire to get some cooking done and chase away the biting flies. Once the campfire had enough coals, I dropped my steak and some eggs in the pan. Oh yeah it was good. But as it goes, the first day is always the busiest and time flew by quickly. So I crawled into the hammock for the night. Big Shout Out to Jay at WoodPigeon Outdoors.
