The roundtable discussion, "The 2026 Constitution of the Republic of Kazakhstan: Development or Degradation?", held by the Rule of Law Institute (Republic of Kazakhstan) took place on June 17, 2026. It should be noted that the Roundtable is held annually. The editors were forced to "delete" the report on the Roundtable, published on June 19, at the request of one of the Roundtable participants. This is an example of how politics influences the fate of legal scholars. For history, this indicates that not all is well in Kazakhstan in 2026. The Rule of Law Institute is a scientific, educational, and expert-consultative institution designed to ensure the creation of a favorable legal environment for the development of Kazakhstan from both a scientific and practical perspective. Its mission and goal is to embody the idea and values ​​of the rule of law in the current legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The fact that the Roundtable turned out to be intimate is nothing new to us, as Chairman of the Institute's Board of Trustees, PhD Azamat Tuleuov. We don't think the title was a deterrent, although it's not impossible. We thank our colleagues, leading constitutional law scholars: Doctor of Law, Professor L.T. Zhanuzakova, Doctor of Law, Professor E.B. Mukhamedzhanov, Candidate of Law, Professor A.A. Karaev, Doctor of History, Professor K. Esengazy, and doctoral student T. Amirov for their participation and presentations. On the eve of the adoption of the new Constitution of March 15, 2026, we attempted to highlight pressing issues facing not only legal scholarship but also law enforcement.
