Gdańsk - Stare Miasto | Dji Avata | Lece w miasto™ [4k]
▸ The beginnings of Gdańsk are the period of the 9th century. At that time, the agricultural, rhinellanic center was developing in the areas of today's city. Traces of settlement in this area reach the younger stone era (2500-1700 BC), and archaeological finds testify to the existence of the Lusatian culture, the culture of the Press Slavic population and the Roman period. Here he began his so -called "Amber Trail". Around 975 on the Motława River on the initiative of Mieszko I, so a stronghold with a port was built. The name of the city was immortalized in the Roman "Life of St. Wojciech" as Gyddanyzc. Gdańsk received city rights in 1236 at the hands of the Pomeranian prince Świętopełk II. Soon, however, the townspeople enjoyed independence. In 1308, the Teutonic Knights insidiously mastered the stronghold and built a new castle here. The Polish king Kazimierz Jagiellończyk in 1457 granted privileges that constituted the legal basis for the autonomy of Gdańsk - incomparable to the one that other Polish cities had. The privileges allow great flourishing for the next 300 years. Gdańsk was integrated, all city parts transformed into one strong center, which even had the right to beat its own coin, sailing control at the port and free transport of goods from Poland and Lithuania. The city was growing in strength, which of course not everyone liked. Especially the next kings of the Commonwealth, for whom the 16th-century power of the city was a serious problem. The conflict with Zygmunt August, trying to subordinate Gdańsk more and create a base of the war fleet here, transformed in 1577 during the reign of Stefan Batory into an open war with the king and the Polish -Lithuanian Commonwealth. Then - in the 17th century - the so -called Golden period of Gdańsk. The city had about 77 thousand residents and was one of the largest and richest in Europe. The greatest buildings were erected then. In 1734, the support of Gdańsk in defense of the rights to the throne of the Polish King Stanisław Leszczyński ended with a siege by the Russian-Saxon army and the city's capitulation. Difficult times began for Gdańsk and Gdańsk residents. As a result of the first partition of Poland in 1772, the city is cut off from the territory of the Kingdom of Poland by Prussia. After the second partition of Poland in 1793, the city was under Prussian rule. In 1807, Gdańsk as a result of Napoleonic wars became a free city for the first time. There is a gradual improvement in the economic situation, which is helped by ... war moods. In 1920, as a result of the provisions of the Versailles Treaty, the Free City of Gdańsk was officially established, which was the realization of the centuries -old aspirations of the inhabitants. Unfortunately, the political conflict in which the city fell with the Polish state led to the exclusion from Polish exports, which was directed by the Gdynia port specially built for this purpose. On September 1, 1939, World War II began with the German attack on Westerplatte and Polish Post. During the war, the city was bombarded twice by Allied aviation. However, the greatest damage took place in March 1945 during the so -called "Liberation" of the city by Soviet and Polish army. After the plunder made by the "liberation" armies and after the autumn storms in 1945, the historical center of the city practically ceased to exist. The reconstruction of the city with its historical center ran quite efficiently, considering that the communist authorities set for their priority to rebuild primarily the capital. The shipyard was also quickly expanded, which contributed to the rapid increase in the population. In 1960, the city already had about 290,000 inhabitants. Gdańsk again became the largest port in the Baltic. However, numerous workers' and intellectual speeches against the communist authorities touched the city. The largest in 1968, 1970 and 1980. As a result of the next protest, the largest and only Solidarity Social Movement in Central Europe was legalized.
