Wales at Six
Design history. This was probably the very first computer-generated programme title sequence to be broadcast in the UK, following Channel 4's 'tumbling blocks' by Robinson Lambie-Nairn. Designer David James prepared a meticulous keyframe-by-keyframe storyboard with timings and Programmer Chris Fynes compiled the sequence on a Primagraphics system at Crown Video, London. Each frame required an hour to render and only existed in row after row of code until the image finally appeared: there was no preview. James designed the sequence in 1984 and it first transmitted in early 1985, forming the basis for the design style for the national ITV news for Wales. Music is by Amanda Alexander. Quality on this video isn't great as it is from a low-format back-up copy tape.
