Jim Henson Memorial - Jane Henson & Family speak about Mr. Henson
The wonderful late Jane Henson and children speak of Jim Henson at his memorial service held on May 21, 1990. The service was held in New York City at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine. When Mr. Henson died unexpectedly on the morning of May 16, 1990, I was 10. I heard the news while having breakfast that morning. The rest of the day seemed to go in slow motion. It's hard to explain why a 10 year old kid could have been affected so deeply by his death, but I cried myself to sleep that night. The year before, I felt a real connection with him when "The Jim Henson Hour" premiered. I fell in love with that show like I did with his other work. He was my hero then, and still is. I wanted to be at this memorial so bad. When I finally had the chance to watch it, it meant the world to me. I do not own any of this footage of the service. Please forgive me for anyone who see otherwise, but I feel all fans who loved Mr. Henson should have the right to experience this tribute. Now that Mrs. Jane Henson has passed, this part of the memorial means even more special to me.
