What's Blocking Your Breakthrough?

Have you ever gone ziplining and been assured of the strong safety cables, only to be handed a liability waiver right before you jump? We often treat God the same way—claiming we trust Him completely, but keeping a financial safety net in our back pocket just in case He doesn't catch us. While we might not burn sacrifices to ancient deities, we struggle with a modern form of idolatry where we use money as a counterfeit god. Just like a smartphone adapter, money becomes the tool we use to plug into the security, power, and status our broken nature craves. This week's message looks at the epic showdown in 1 Kings 18 between Elijah and the prophets of Baal during a devastating ancient drought. To prove that God was the true provider, Elijah challenged the wavering Israelites by pouring out up to 240 gallons of their most precious resource—water—onto the altar before God sent down a consuming fire. It was a radical call to cut the safety net and trust the maker of heaven and earth instead of the counterfeit gods of their economy. The good news is that we don't have to earn this provision. On the cross, Jesus absorbed the consuming fire of God's justice for our idolatry so that the floodgates of grace could rain down on us. Because He held nothing back, we are invited to surrender our financial safety nets, break the chains of the god of money, and experience the freedom of transformational generosity.
