Organza ribbon is a very versatile fly-tying material and works well with many other synthetic and natural materials. It can also be used on its own to make a huge variety of different fly patterns. A single colour wound in touching turns builds a body with subtle sparkle from the crimped fibres. Winding two or three colours together creates a great segmented effect. This video shows the two basic methods of tying flies using just organza. Sequential tying uses sections of organza tied in one at a time, for example using a single colour for a nymph abdomen and a second colour for the thorax. Parallel tying uses different colours of ribbon tied in and wound together to give a segmented blend of colours which can give a very natural looking effect. The OJO patterns tied in this video only hint at the variations that can be achieved with just a few prepared strands of ribbon. With a bit of thought and the right size and shape of hooks you can make very effective buzzers, nymphs, emergers and even streamers out of just organza. Music by audionautix.com
