Sermon Text: Joshua 6:1-21 1. Jericho was tightly shut up because of the Israelites; no one could go out or come in. 2. Then the LORD said to Joshua, “See, I have given Jericho into your hand, along with its king and its warriors. 3. All your men of war are to march around the city once a day for six days. 4. Seven priests carrying seven trumpets of rams’ horns are to pass before the ark of the covenant. On the seventh day, they are to march around the city seven times, and the priests are to blow the trumpets. 5. When you hear the priests blow a long blast with the trumpets, and all the people are to shout with a loud shout, the wall of the city will fall flat on its face, and the people are to go up, every man straight before him.” 6. Joshua son of Nun called the priests and said to them, “Take up the ark of the covenant, and seven priests carrying seven trumpets of rams’ horns are to pass before the ark of the LORD.” 7. He also said to the people, Pass on and march around the city, but the armed men shall pass on before the ark of the LORD.” 8. When Joshua had finished speaking to the people, the seven priests carrying seven trumpets of rams’ horns passed on before the LORD and blew the trumpets, and the ark of the covenant of the LORD followed them. 9. The armed men marched on before the priests blowing the trumpets, and the rear guard followed behind the ark, with the priests blowing the trumpets as they marched on. 10. Then Joshua commanded the people, saying, “Do not shout or let your voice be heard, nor let any word come out of your mouths, until the day I command you to shout, you shall shout.” 11. Then the ark of the LORD marched around the city once, and they came into the camp and slept in the camp. 12. Then Joshua rose early in the morning, and the priests took up the ark of the LORD. 13. The seven priests carrying the seven trumpets of rams’ horns marched on before the ark of the LORD and blew the trumpets. The armed men The rearguard marched after the ark of the LORD, and the priests marched out, blowing the trumpets. 14 On the second day they marched around the city once and returned to the camp. They did this for six days. 15 On the seventh day, at dawn, they rose early and circled the city seven times in the same way; only on that day did they circle the city seven times. 16 On the seventh day, when the priests blew the trumpets, Joshua said to the people, “Shout, for the LORD has given you the city.” 17 “The city and everything in it are devoted to the LORD. But Rahab the prostitute and all who are in her house are to live, because she hid the messengers we sent.” 18 “You are to be devoted to the LORD; do not take any of the devoted things, or you will bring trouble upon the camp of Israel. Only do not touch the devoted things. 19 “All the silver, gold, and articles of bronze and iron are holy to the LORD; they are to be brought into the LORD’s treasury.” "Let them go in." 20. Then the people shouted, and the priests blew the trumpets. When the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a loud shout, the wall fell flat. The people went up to the city, each man straight ahead, and captured it. 21. They utterly destroyed everything in the city: men, women, young and old, cattle, sheep, and donkeys, they destroyed with the edge of the sword.
