Super Basics on Harmonics in 3 Phase Motors
Electric machines are frequency-driven devices that are excited by sinusoidal, 3-phase (typically) voltages. While the machines are driven by the fundamental frequency of the excitation, the electrical excitation has harmonics, or orders, that accompany it. This video will discuss why we use sinusoids to excite the machines, why 3 phases are ideal from a harmonic standpoint, and the implications of the common harmonics in electric motors.
