The biggest problem in organic rice farming is that weeds grow quickly, preventing the rice from growing. To solve this, the fields are flooded, and the puddling is carried out in three stages, with a one-month gap between stages before planting. The first stage is in late May, the second two weeks later, and the third just before planting in late June. Each time the fields are puddled, the weeds that have grown are dispersed, making it harder for them to grow. "During this time, creatures such as earthworms increase in the fields, creating a soft, muddy layer on the surface of the soil, which prevents weeds from sprouting." This year, seven varieties are being cultivated on approximately 70 ares of rice paddy land.
