INVASIVE or NON-INVASIVE blood pressure - NAVE Tretas #8 Blood pressure is one of the most important parameters in anesthesia and in this video lesson we will talk a little about the differences between invasive and non-invasive blood pressure assessment. In the first video of the NAVE Tretas playlist trilogy, we discuss the choice between invasive or non-invasive monitoring, bringing up the advantages, limitations and practical applications of each. Invasive pressure is considered the gold standard because it offers continuous and reliable data, whether by aneroid manometer or multiparametric monitors with transducers. However, it requires training, care with asepsis, risk of embolism and difficulty in very small patients. Non-invasive pressure, on the other hand, is practical and safe, but limited: it does not provide a pressure curve, has a reading interval, and can be influenced by several factors, resulting in inaccurate values. The choice of method depends on the clinical condition: in ASA I and II patients, non-invasive blood pressure is usually sufficient; in ASA III or higher, invasive blood pressure becomes essential. In horses, it is mandatory. If you have never had problems with non-invasive blood pressure, it may be because you have never compared it to invasive blood pressure.
