When I pray, divine power is revealed. We become ecstatic when we see things happen through prayer that we could never do on our own. However, this doesn't mean we can manipulate God as we please. God is not a genie in a lamp. He's not Will Smith, nor does he slap others in the face. Quite the opposite. Through prayer, I enter the target of God's heart. Prayer is communication and conversation. There's an exchange. Outwardly, I close my eyes and mutter to myself. But inside my soul, angels are ascending and descending on a ladder that leads to heaven. As I pray, a text message arrives from the angels: "Your package has left." I am now communicating with God through prayer. My voice is ascending to heaven. God's heart is being poured out upon me. So, as I deepen my prayers, my prayer topics change. Prayer moves like a conversation flowing. Unexpected thoughts arise and my prayers change. Why? Because it is communication and conversation. We desire the final answer to our prayers, but God desires the process. Jesus's prayer before the cross began from nature and desire and landed in the Father's will. If prayer remains limited to instinct and desire, or merely hovers around them, it is not a conversation with God. It is an incantation, a mental victory.
