CAN NIGERIA BECOME AFRICA'S SUPERMARKET?Rwandair Cargo Deal Opens New Export Routes

Nigeria is expanding its African export corridor through a new cargo partnership with RwandAir, in a move that could reduce the cost of moving Nigerian goods into East and Southern African markets. Under the new arrangement, cargo rates on selected RwandAir routes are expected to fall to under $2 per kilogramme, compared with previous costs that reportedly ranged from $3 to $10 per kilogramme. The corridor is expected to open or strengthen routes from Lagos to Kigali, Harare, Lusaka, Nairobi and Johannesburg. For Nigerian exporters, especially SMEs in agribusiness, fashion, cosmetics, processed foods and light manufacturing, this could be a major opportunity. Cheaper air cargo may help Nigerian products compete better across African markets. But the bigger question remains: can cheaper air freight alone transform Nigerian exports? Or will inland transport problems, customs delays, weak production capacity and poor market access still hold businesses back? This WestAfrica.News report examines the promise and the challenge behind the Nigeria–RwandAir cargo deal, and what it could mean for AfCFTA, intra-African trade and the future of Nigerian products across the continent. What do you think? Can Nigeria finally become a major supplier to African markets, or is the logistics problem deeper than air cargo costs? Subscribe to WestAfrica.News for fresh and incisive perspectives on Africa, the diaspora and the changing global economy. #Nigeria, #RwandAir, #AfCFTA, #AfricanTrade, #NigeriaExports, #WestAfricaNews
