Charlie's solo on the Benny Goodman Sextet's 1939 recording of "Rose Room" is possibly my favourite swing era electric guitar solo of all time! His ideas are so melodic and playful, and his flow is incredible throughout. You might think this is a hard thing to decode, but in truth, Charlie's note choices are always very logical and easy to understand, which is why this is such an essential solo to learn for any budding jazz guitarists out there! So much crucial vocabulary laid down in one 32 bar solo, it's really something! We will also talk about the chord changes as we make our way through the solo, and I'll show you some authentic, yet simple ways to lay down the changes for yourself.
