Seville's Criminal Court Number Seven has sentenced Francisco Javier García, known as El Cuco, who already served time for covering up the murder of young Marta del Castillo in 2009, and her mother, to two years in prison for perjury in their statements as witnesses in the 2011 trial against the adults accused of the crime. In the sentence, the judge ordered each of them to pay a fine of 1,440 euros. Both must also compensate the young woman's parents with 30,000 euros (15,000 euros for each parent) for the "undeniable and manifest pain" caused, according to the sentence the judge communicated this Thursday to El Cuco and his mother, after both acknowledged the facts contained in the Prosecutor's indictment on May 26 but chose not to answer questions. The crime of perjury carries a prison sentence of six months to two years and a fine of three to six months.
