His mother was left paralyzed (for a few years) and Mario believes that led to his mom turning to drugs, heroin in particular, as an escape. He also explained how he got introduced to the streets and revealed that he sold weed for a minute in middle school. However, after getting in trouble Mario was soon adopted and left the streets alone.
