After serving 21 years behind bars, Jimmy Wanjohi is back
After serving 21 years behind bars, Jimmy Wanjohi has finally regained his freedom but his story is still unfolding. Originally facing four charges of robbery with violence, three were later withdrawn, leaving him to serve a sentence that was commuted from death to life imprisonment, and eventually reduced to 21 years. During that time, he was held in some of Kenya’s most notorious prisons, including Kamiti, Naivasha, Manyani, and Shimo La Tewa. In this deeply moving and candid interview, Jimmy reflects on how his life went off course. He shares that he wasn’t initially involved in crime, but after coming across firearms left behind by his late brother, he gradually found himself pulled into a criminal path. What followed would alter his life completely. Today, Jimmy has transformed. He now speaks out to caution and mentor young people against crime. However, adjusting to life after prison has been challenging. Since his release in 2019, he has been struggling with diabetes, which has made it difficult for him to find work and sustain himself. He makes a heartfelt appeal to Kenyans and anyone watching: if you are in a position to help, please consider supporting him. Any assistance can go a long way in helping him rebuild his life. Let us come together to uplift reformed individuals and combat crime by promoting second chances and positive change.
