Are Fairy Penguin Real? Facts You NEED to Know | Weird & Wonderful

Not all penguins are black and white! The smallest species of penguin actually has blue feathers! What facts should you know about the fairy penguin? This is a special episode, as we’ve reached 50 subscribers! As a new youtuber, the support shown is amazing and I wanted to say “thanks” to our 50th friend, Steph! To show our thanks, we decided to do this episode on her favourite animal: the penguin! Meet the Little Blue Penguin ( Eudyptula minor)! They also go by Fairy penguin, blue penguin or just little penguin! So many names for such a small flightless bird! All penguin species live in the Southern Hemisphere, and they don't just all live in Antarctica! The little blue penguin in particular, is native to southern Australia and New Zealand. How big are fairy penguins? Well only about 1kg in weight and 25-35cm tall! As the world's smallest penguin, they only can swim up to 2.5 km/h. But they can swim the distance! During breeding season, little blue penguins can swim up to 50 km a day! Fairy penguins spend about 80% of their lives swimming and foraging in the ocean. It's a good thing they are adapatable to local environments. One particular study that I found fascinating is here: https://www.jstor.org/stable/26626234...
