We are Bengali Indian women from West Bengal near Kolkata who love being a food eater artist. Today our eating show features a massive traditional village lunch thali filled with simple food. This homemade menu has authentic Bengali items like bhat dal egg omelette potol bhaja and aloo bharta. Did you know these Indian dishes are famous in other states too? People enjoy them across South Asia but call them by different names. In Northern India rice is called chawal and dal is often called yellow tadka. Aloo bharta is known as aloo chokha in Bihar or aloo bharta in Bangladesh. Potol bhaja is called parwal fry or potala bhaja in Odisha. In Kerala and Tamil Nadu eggs are called Mutta (or Muttai) in the regional language. In West Bengal and Odisha egg omelette is colloquially known as Mamlet. In Bihar and Jharkhand half-fried or poached eggs are called Egg Pouch or Masala Poach. A traditional omelette from rural Kashmir made with very simple spices in a clay oven (Kangri).
