The house featured today is where Professor Jeon Young-ae, a professor and Goethe scholar, lives. The reason she calls herself a "seven-person slave" is that no matter how much she works, there is no end in sight to her tasks. And understandably so, as the land at Yeobaek spans a total of 3,200 pyeong. Managing this site alone would require more than 24 hours a day. One might assume she built a large, spacious house on such a vast plot, but she says she is satisfied with just one room the size of a doghouse. However, the doghouse-sized room is nowhere to be found, replaced by a palatial house. Yet, it is said that once you take a proper tour of the house, you will instantly understand what she means. There are three pavilions at Yeobaek Seowon. The first is Sijeong, which marked the beginning of Yeobaek Seowon and is the oldest building on the premises. The Sijeong, a two-room pavilion known as a "thatched house with two rooms" rather than a "three-room thatched house," serves as a space for resting during the day while working, and a place to study by the lights at night. It is truly a prime example of working by day and studying by night. The second is Ujeong, which offers a bonus view of the pond. Designed for foreign scholars to relax comfortably, most of the furniture inside Ujeong was salvaged, creating a simple yet traditional atmosphere. Finally, Yejeong is a gallery for emerging artists who have just stepped into the world of art. Next to Yejeong is the Goethe Theater, where anyone—from children practicing Taekwondo prayers to university students performing plays—can become the protagonist. Professor Jeon Young-ae explained that she created this space to offer opportunities to those who lack a chance to stand on their own. There are spaces not only for adults but also for children. The Children's Library is quite systematic in its own way, notably featuring a dedicated Children's Librarian and Assistant Librarian. The Children's Library is a space where one can read and share books at any time. Managing such a vast space all by herself, she had no choice but to be promoted from the equivalent of five slaves to seven. Furthermore, Professor Jeon Young-ae is fully occupied with welcoming guests, whether it is enjoying reading sessions with others on the last Saturday of every month or attending a performance of Faust at the Goethe Theater. Professor Jeon states that while building Yeobaekjae, she did not merely give away, but received far more. She emphasizes that Yeobaek is not a space achieved solely through her own efforts. The heart of someone who urged her to fulfill her dreams after a lecture in Germany, the sentiment of seeing the names of books read by others appear on bank statements, and the collective hearts of volunteers who visit whenever they have the time, as if by prearrangement, have all come together to form this space called Yeobaek. As befits a Goethe scholar, there is also a space where her affection for Goethe is clearly visible. Currently, she has completed the Goethe One-Person Library and the Goethe House, and Professor Jeon says her dream is to complete a "Goethe Village," though she does not know when that will be.
