La Compagnie de danse Pom’Kanel Hello! Schoten proudly welcomes “La Compagnie de danse Pom’Kanel” this year, a leading folklore dance group from Martinique. The company was founded in 1981 in Basse-Pointe under the name “le groupe Pomme Cannelle” and has since grown into a true ambassador of Martinique culture and traditions. With great passion and enthusiasm, the dancers pay homage to their African roots through Haitian rituals and voodoo, including the beguine, the waltz, the mazurka, the haute-taille, the calenda, and the zip-zap (sugar cane cutting), and of course the carnival, through which they bring the rhythm, history, and soul of the island to life. Over the years, “Les Ballets Pomme Cannelle” built a strong reputation as one of Martinique’s most important folklore groups, and since October 2006, the group’s name has changed to “La Compagnie de Danse Pom’Kanel”. The Compagnie proudly represents the municipality of Basse-Pointe and performs regularly at local festivities, cultural events, in hotels, and at international folklore festivals and tournaments, while also touring the globe with its performances. Its shows combine authentic music, lively choreographies, and colorful costumes into a captivating experience that immerses the audience in the warm and festive atmosphere of Martinique. With its performance at Hello!Schoten, it brings not only dance and music but also a piece of living culture and tradition to the festival audience.
