Caso Garlasco, l'interrogatorio di Marco Poggi: ecco cosa ha detto su Chiara e Andrea Sempio

A small, light-colored wooden desk, a computer to record every word, and a camera providing a close-up view of Marco Poggi as, for approximately an hour and a half, he answers questions from prosecutors Valentina De Stefano and Giuliana Rizza, flanked by a Carabinieri officer, at the Pavia prosecutor's office. Excerpts from the video were published exclusively today by the Adnkronos website. The brother of Chiara, killed in Garlasco on August 13, 2007, appeared at 9:50 a.m. on the third floor of the Pavia courthouse on May 6 as a witness. "My name is Marco Poggi," begins the statement of the 38-year-old, who, as is standard procedure, is warned that he must tell the truth to avoid the crime of forgery, a crime punishable by law. The new face-to-face meeting—in the new investigation involving Andrea Sempio, a friend of the victim's brother—begins with questions about Poggi's home computer. The request aims to determine whether the suspect may have had access to the intimate videos on the computer, which investigators believe constitute the motive for the Garlasco crime. "When my friends came over, I usually showed them the games, and they might play together or I'd let them try them. When we played computer games, we did so in Chiara's room because the family computer was there," he explains. "I might have played computer games while Chiara was home, but my friends didn't come over when Chiara or my parents were there. They might have bumped into each other. My friends came over in the afternoon, as far as I can remember," he says, referring to the summer of 2007. Marco Poggi rules out the possibility that his friends, including Sempio, used his computer in his absence: "It seems impossible to me because I was there when we went over. I can't rule out the possibility that I sometimes left to go to the bathroom or get a drink, although I have no recollection of that." The witness is informed of the possibility that his childhood friend Sempio may be in possession of an intimate video of his sister, but the answer is clear. "It seems impossible to me. I confirm again that I have not seen the videos. I cannot find an explanation." Exclusively on the Adnkronos website, the video of Marco Poggi, interviewed as a witness by the Pavia Prosecutor's Office in the new investigation into the murder of his sister Chiara, killed in Garlasco on August 13, 2007. The footage shows the young man answering investigators' questions: he reconstructs his relationship with his friend Andrea Sempio, under investigation for aggravated murder, denies having ever seen or spoken about his sister's "intimate" videos, and reiterates his belief that the culprit is convicted criminal Alberto Stasi, who is currently serving his sentence. Investigators describe this confrontation as "hostile" in the investigation documents, as if the victim's brother were inclined to "constantly defend" Sempio. This version doesn't change even when the prosecutor reads the suspect's car wiretap to him. "It seems crazy to me that he said those words and that he was in touch with Chiara. I still have all my cell phones; if you want, I'll give them to you and you can check them. I've never had videos of Chiara on my phone, and I've never shown them to anyone. It seems crazy to me that Andrea Sempio, already knowing he was under investigation and being wiretapped, would start listening to podcasts about Chiara's murder and commenting on them." Disbelief is the emotion that seems to shine through Marco Poggi's face, as he responds with the same tone of voice and maintaining the same posture, arms folded and gaze straight. "I can't explain it. If I have to, the only plausible, albeit absurd, explanation—given that the wiretap mentions a flash drive with intimate videos—is that Sempio took a USB stick from Chiara's room and took it home. I repeat, I didn't see the video of Chiara and Stasi, nor did I show it to my friends. It seems crazy to me because I don't think a friend of mine would come to my house and steal something, and then someone would notice, and Chiara would notice." These are the answers that investigators interpret as a "hostile" attitude, as an ex officio defense of the friend and a criticism of the new investigation that casts doubt on the guilt of her boyfriend Alberto Stasi, who was sentenced to 16 years in prison for Chiara Poggi's murder. "What I said before applies. I can tell you what I did, I didn't see the videos, I didn't show them to my friends, I never even spoke to my friends about these videos. I can't explain it. (...) I repeat, it seems crazy to me, I can't explain it, it's all surreal," he says.
