On today's Podcast, Ashley Thompson and Dan Novak host the show then Ashley tells listeners what they will hear. First, Dan has a story about the city of Miami Beach, Florida. Local officials are putting new security measures in place because of rising violent crime in the area. Police will put checkpoints and strong controls in place, including aiming for more arrests for drug possession. Civil rights activists say the move targets Black people and is racist. Businesses are worried increased security will hurt their activities. But local officials say violence has gotten out of hand and hurts the community. Next, Dan Friedell has a story about a young boy in Gaza who family was killed in an explosion that also destroyed on of his arms. The boy was taken out of Gaza. He received a medical operation and was sent to Philadelphia for additional medical care where he received a prosthetic limb. Now, he and his aunt face an uncertain future as they prepare to head back to Gaza. After that, Caty Weaver has a report on plans that the Democratic Republic of the Congo has for additional oil and gas explorations. Political leaders say the effort will grow the economy. But rights groups, environmentalists and activists say it will increase pollution and increase inequality. A company already developing oil fields says it is observing international standards. On our Everyday Grammar program, Jill Robbins uses the 1989 award-winning song "Fast Car" to explore contrasts with indefinite pronouns. Jill looks at indefinite pronouns like "something" "somewhere, and "somebody" and how they can be used in everyday speech. Then, Jill offers Ashley some thoughts she has about the song "Fast Car."
