THE SOUTHERN TALKS #21 Libya - Fragmented Sovereignty and Its Implications

In this Southern Talk, we had the privilege of speaking with Mr Mohamed Eljarh, who provided his expert opinions and perceptions on the topic of Libya: Fragmented Sovereignty and Its Implications. Beginning with a brief description of Libya’s internal political fragmentation over the past 15 years, resulting in Libya having increasingly wider regional and transatlantic relevance, Mr Eljarh went on to look at some of the most relevant challenges facing Libya and the broader Mediterranean region. Topics discussed included: Mediterranean security; Sahel instability; the migration of terrorist and violent extremist groups; energy infrastructure; organised crime; and growing external power competition. The conversation also delved into the issues of weapons proliferation, security sector fragmentation, and institutional collapse.
