国道173号《丹波篠山市→綾部市》意外と知られていない？最短ルート【R173/下り/後編】

When traveling from Osaka to Fukuchiyama via ordinary roads, I naturally assumed that the only option was to take National Route 176, which runs closely alongside the JR Fukuchiyama Line. However, upon actually driving it, I discovered that National Route 176 is a roundabout route, winding west and east. It makes detours through Takarazuka, Nishinomiya-Najio, Sanda, the area around Sasayamaguchi Station, and various towns in Tanba City. Therefore, for those who absolutely want to reach Fukuchiyama city center via ordinary roads, it will likely take longer than expected. So, after checking a map, I realized that using National Route 173 actually allows you to reach Fukuchiyama and Ayabe in a nearly straight north-south direction (though there are some curves). National Route 173, particularly in the Kawanishi City section, suffers from significant traffic congestion due to the inflow and outflow of surrounding new towns. For this reason, I avoided this route for a long time. I only drove it out of necessity if I wanted to see the Hitokura Dam... (When I was younger, it was a place I inexplicably wanted to visit! I wonder why... Ikko Dam) This time, I drove along National Route 173 from start to finish to Ayabe City, located east of Fukuchiyama City, and found it to be a very comfortable road. If you want to go to Fukuchiyama City instead of Ayabe City, you'll immediately intersect with National Route 9 once you enter Kyotamba Town, so take that route. Alternatively, you could take the Kyoto Jukan Expressway at the nearby Kyotamba Mizuho Interchange and only pay the toll for the section from Ayabe Junction to the Fukuchiyama Interchange on the Maizuru-Wakasa Expressway. I felt that National Route 173 is quite a usable road, provided you can bear the initial discomfort. What kind of road is it?
