*Toookdong Valley Trekking *July 19, 2026 *Toookdong Valley, Wolseongjae, Satgatbong, Satgat Shelter, Hwangjeom Village Located in Yangak-ri, Gyebuk-myeon, Jangsu-gun, Jeollabuk-do, Toookdong Valley is a magnificent and beautiful gorge hidden between North Deogyusan and South Deogyusan. Situated at the southernmost end of the ridge extending from Deogyusan, it is a hidden gem that has relatively well preserved its pristine natural environment. *Key Features and Information* *Location:* Area around 1 Yangak-ri, Gyebuk-myeon, Jangsu-gun, Jeollabuk-do *Origin and Characteristics:* This valley is formed by water streams originating from South Deogyusan, Seobong, Satgatbong, and others flowing northwest to form the uppermost reaches of Yangakcheon. Due to the low number of nearby sources of pollution, the water is exceptionally clear and clean. *Nearby Attractions and Historical Sites:* *Yangak Lake:* A clear and charming reservoir located at the upper end of the valley. Yangaktap: A five-story stone pagoda (currently only four stories remain) said to have been built at a temple called Simsangsa. It is designated as a Local Tangible Cultural Heritage. Other Historic Sites: The War Memorial Monuments for Righteous Army Commanders Mun Tae-seo and Park Chun-sil, as well as the Memorial Monument for the Korean Language Scholar Jeong In-seung, are located nearby. Features and Amenities: Trout farms and local restaurants are situated around the valley, making it a well-known spot where visitors can enjoy the natural scenery while savoring fresh trout sashimi. Restrooms and parking facilities are available. Notes Access to some hiking trails and valley areas leading to Namdeogyusan Wolseongjae is restricted or controlled for trail maintenance and nature conservation (such as the rest year system).
