The Salesians' arrival in Patagonia was not a first attempt, and it was never easy. The scant and confusing information circulating about the indigenous peoples; the demands and responsibilities assumed in the capital; the adverse climate, the economic difficulties, and the social and political context that Argentina was experiencing made this mission a greater challenge than initially assumed. However, Don Bosco insisted time and again to his Salesians: "We must go to Patagonia."
