Slayer are absolute legends in thrash metal and one of my favorite bands. Clemens feels the same way, which is why I invited him to my record collection for an album ranking. It turned into a really long conversation about the band's evolution. What surprised me was which album landed at number one for me. You always just think of that one thing... When you look at their 12 studio albums, what's consistent, where did they break with their style? And what was actually wrong with metal in the '90s? Preparing for this video made it very clear to me when I find Slayer at their best: namely, when menacing scenarios build up in the songs before everything escalates into full-blown mayhem.
