Kloster Hirsau - 30. Juni 2026 - Hirsau Abbey

Kloster Hirsau liegt im Nagoldtal zwischen dicht bewaldeten Schwarzwald-Höhen. Es war eines der berühmtesten Benediktinerklöster im 11. Jahrhundert: Die geistliche und politische Bedeutung Hirsaus im Mittelalter war groß und spiegelt sich in seiner Architektur wider. In der Reformation wurde das Kloster aufgehoben und verfiel später. Herzog Ludwig erbaute an der Stelle des Abtshauses ein repräsentatives Jagdschloss. Nahezu die gesamte Klosteranlage wurde durch französische Truppen im Pfälzischen Erbfolgekrieg Ende des 17. Jahrhunderts zerstört. Ihre Ruinen dienten lange Zeit als Steinbruch, bis schließlich ab 1850 die denkmalpflegerische Sicherung des Geländes begann. Die baugeschichtlich bedeutenden Ruinen aus Romanik, Gotik und Renaissance sind aber immer noch sehenswert und der bis heute erhaltene, sechsstöckige Eulenturm mit seinen Arkadenfenstern und dem Bildfries mit Menschen- und Tierfiguren wurde das Wahrzeichen des Klosters. English: Hirsau Abbey is situated in the Nagold Valley amongst the densely wooded hills of the Black Forest. It was one of the most famous Benedictine abbeys in the 11th century: Hirsau’s spiritual and political significance in the Middle Ages was considerable and is reflected in its architecture. During the Reformation, the abbey was dissolved and later fell into disrepair. Duke Ludwig built a stately hunting lodge on the site of the abbot’s residence. Almost the entire monastery complex was destroyed by French troops during the War of the Palatinate Succession at the end of the 17th century. Its ruins served as a quarry for a long time, until conservation work to preserve the site finally began in 1850. However, the ruins – which are of significant architectural and historical importance, dating from the Romanesque, Gothic and Renaissance periods – are still well worth seeing, and the six-storey Owl Tower, which has survived to this day with its arcaded windows and a frieze depicting human and animal figures, has become the monastery’s landmark.
