48 Hours in Cinque Terre | Colorful Italian Coastal Towns
Cinque Terre is a perfect adventure chapter of our Italian trip. Cinque Terre literally translates to "Five Lands" in Italian. It refers to a rugged, breathtakingly beautiful stretch of the Italian Riviera coastline in the Liguria region of northwest Italy. You can easily spend many days here to slowly enjoy these colorful fishing villages, but if your time is limited even 1 full day is enough to get a taste of all 5 villages. The way to achieve this is to get the Cinque Terre Train Ticket Pass for 1 full day of unlimited train rides through the Cinque Terre area. We stayed in La Spezia rather than directly in one of the towns for easier luggage transport and parking options since we drove our rental car from Florence anyway. From La Spezia, the Cinque Terre Train takes you to all five villages in just minutes. We started in Vernazza, continued to Monterosso, returned to Vernazza for better light, then visited Riomaggiore and finally Manarola for sunset. We only missed Corniglia. Every village has its own charm and unique specialty, but somehow they merge beautifully as one amazing chapter. Hope you enjoy Cinque Terre the same as we did.
